Satire site takes on disability

The news satire site, NewsMutiny, has recently included "stories" poking fun at the way the news portrays disability. Satire that critiques societal barriers or the way society treats disabled people means that disability rights is making its way into humor that critiques society's flaws. Unlike humor that makes fun of people with disabilities, satire about society's barriers is a wonderful addition to the humor landscape.

The disability community has embraced the show "South Park," which has several disabled characters, who allow the show to satirize the condescending way people with disabilities are treated, not by laughing at people with disabilities. Timmy, a disabled character from "South Park," was voted favorite disability character on British TV a few years ago.
