Researcher says MS on the rise in Asian countries

LUDHIANA, India -- Dr Pamela McCombe, Associate Professor of Neurology from University of Queensland, Australia, delivered a series of lectures at Christian Medical College and Hospital.

Dr McCombe, who is visiting the Department of Neurology at CMCH, is a leading expert in neurological diseases like multiple sclerosis and peripheral nerve diseases. She is also the chairperson of the Scientific Committee of Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists and is also a board member of Australian Asian Foundation.

Speaking about about multiple sclerosis, McCombe said, “This disease of the brain and spinal cord is on the rise in Asian countries. In in multiple sclerosis, the coverings of the nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord get affected. Patients can present with repeated episodes of loss of vision, paralysis of arm or leg etc. If not treated, this disease can lead to severe disability.”
