Wheelchair user being sued after she shot man she says tried to rob her

HARLEM -- A wheelchair-bound grandmother is being sued by a man she shot in the elbow after he allegedly tried to steal from her.

Margaret Johnson broke down in tears over her troubles.

The 59-year-old grandmother was slapped with a lawsuit by Deron Johnson, who she shot with a .357 Magnum. She accused Johnson of choking her for her gold chains and trying to mug her as she rode her scooter.

Margaret Johnson is the granddaughter of Harlem's infamous crime boss Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson. Her attorney, Ron Kuby, accuses the plaintiff of looking for a payday.

Deron Johnson's attorney, Craig Davidowitz, defended his client's rap sheet by saying just because you have a past doesn't mean everything you do is criminal. He said a jury acquitted Deron Johnson, but that Margaret still is responsible for shooting him.

Davidowitz says Margaret Johnson had a residence permit for the weapon, but not a license to carry the gun on the street.

Deron Johnson claims Margaret's dog, Malika, went after him and Margaret shot him just for kicking the pooch.
