Teen with autism stabs mother's boyfriend to death after the man attacked them

From the Detroit Free Press:

A 14-year-old boy who police said stabbed his mother’s boyfriend to death as the man attacked them early May 13 has been released to his mother as the investigation continues, Detroit police said.

Julius Wiseman, 31, was drunk when he returned to his girlfriend’s home in the 15000 block of Manning on the east side at 1:45 a.m. and began hitting the 32-year-old woman and her son, police said.

The boy told investigators that he grabbed a knife and stabbed the man to protect them, police spokesman Alan Quinn said.

The boy’s name wasn’t released because he is a minor and is not charged with a crime.

Authorities said Wiseman died of a stab wound to the chest.

Wiseman was released from prison in April 2008 after serving nearly eight years on assault and robbery charges stemming from a November 1999 incident in St. Clair County, according to records with the Michigan Department of Corrections. He was to remain on probation until next April as part of his parole.

Detectives will turn over results of their investigation to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether any charges will be filed against the teen, police said.
