Woman arrested for killing of Canadian boy with autism

GRAND FORKS, British Columbia -- A 42-year-old woman was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and charged with killing a 12-year-old autistic boy in British Columbia.

Kimberly Noyes was arrested August 18 in Grand Forks, near the Washington border, The (Vancouver) Province reported.

The body of John Fulton was found in the basement of her townhouse, two doors away from where he lived with his mother and sisters, the newspaper said.

The boy disappeared Saturday and police began a search about 20 hours later. As part of door-to-door canvassing Monday, they knocked on Noyes's door, but she refused to let them in, a neighbor told the newspaper.

Investigators allegedly learned Noyes had a history of mental illness and issued a public warning that she posed a danger to herself and others, The Province said. They returned to the townhouse with a warrant, but Noyes wasn't home and the boy's body was found.

No details were released about how he died.

Noyes was later spotted near a school and arrested.

Fulton's family issued a statement criticizing police for not issuing an Amber Alert immediately. "We feel strongly that any child with autism should automatically qualify," they said.
