Guggenheim Museum 50th anniversary will have accessible tours

Thanks to Simi for the tip. The Guggenheim is planning guided tours on October 21 in celebration of the museum's 50th anniversary. Titled "Anniversary eye tours" - the museum will have interactive tours in "5 languages, verbal imaging and ASL."

Here's information about the museum's program for visitors with disabilities:

In March 2008, the Guggenheim Museum launched educational programming for hard-of-hearing, deaf, partially sighted, and blind adults. Mind's Eye programs offer the opportunity for these audiences to explore the museum's exhibitions, collections, and architecture by means of linguistic and visual tools particular to their experience. Tours are conducted in American Sign Language, and through verbal imaging (detailed physical descriptions of artworks) and touch. Led by arts and education professionals, these tours are forums for shared discussion of visitor observations, questions, and thoughts. Rooted in the value of interactive exchange, the tours are thus in line with the educational philosophy of the museum's Sackler Center for Arts Education. Future goals for Mind's Eye include expanding programming to reach individuals with Alzheimer's disease, homebound individuals, and youth and families.
