Family charged in death of disabled NJ woman found in filthy home

From The AP:

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -― Police in northern New Jersey say the mother and sister of a bedridden, disabled woman found dead inside their filthy, roach-infested Jersey City home have been charged with neglect.

Lt. Edgar Martinez, a police spokesman, says the 33-year-old victim — who had cerebral palsy and Down syndrome — was found around 12:30 p.m. Thursday in an unventilated room where the temperature had reached 100 degrees. But it's not yet known what caused the death. The woman's name was not disclosed.

The woman's 45-year-old sister, Helene Hutchinson, and her 78-year-old mother, Florence Garland, were her primary caregivers. Hutchinson owns the home.

The women were taken to the Hudson County Jail. It was not known if they had retained legal counsel.
