July 26, 2010, sing the accomplishments of 20 years of disability rights through the Americans with Disabilities Act

The 20th Anniversary of the ADA will be celebrated July 26, 2010 around the USA. Media dis&dat wants to feature a few of the anniversary logos, as well as remind readers of an ADA song, written in 1992 by Karl Williams.

You can find out about the hundreds of 20th Anniversary celebrations around the USA at the anniversary Facebook page. California alone will have 15 different ADA anniversary celebrations. NY city will have an evening of performance in the form of a "Criptease."

According to the Fort Wayne Homeschooling Examiner, the Northeast Indiana Disability Advocacy Coalition (NIDAC) is grading the City of Fort Wayne and surrounding counties on being disability friendly and will report the results of the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act Survey on the steps of the Federal Building on Monday, July 26th, 2010, at 10 a.m.

Disability Matters with Joyce Bender: On her July 20, 2010 show at 11 a.m. PT, Joyce welcomes Tony Coelho, former congressman, and author of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He will discuss the long journey he went through to gather support for the passage of this ground breaking piece of legislation. In addition, he will reflect on what it means to him to have the ADA in place, working for Americans with disabilities 20 years later.

Here's a slideshow of disability rights images from The Examiner. I hope everyone will flood YouTube with their videos of all the 20th anniversary celebrations.

So Happy ADA 20th everyone!

Here's the ADA song to get you ready for the celebrations:

"Americans With Disabilities Act Song"

1. The curbs are cut, the ramps are down.
The lifts are in, so gather 'round.
The clouds are gone and the sky is blue.
We got our rights in 1992.

Chorus: Hey Hey Hey For The ADA

2. Gonna find me a job, gonna ride the bus.
You kept us down for so long,
but now there's no stopping us.

Chorus: Hey Hey Hey For The ADA

3. Gonna get an education, check into a hotel room.
And when they start selling tickets,
might even take a ride to the moon.

Chorus: Hey Hey Hey For The ADA

4. We're gonna take our place, play our part.
Lord, we've been praying for this day,
with all our hearts.

Chorus: Hey Hey Hey For The ADA

5. You're gonna see me, in some place new
You may be angry, but won't be a thing you can do.
You can bolt all your padlocks, bar all your doors.
I'll hire me a lawyer and see you in court.

Chorus: Hey Hey Hey For The ADA
