The International Committee of Deaf Sports confirmed Feb. 11 that it is cancelling the 17th Winter Deaflympics.
The 10-day ICSD event was scheduled to begin on Feb. 18 in Vysoke Tatry, Slovakia.
The ICSD executive board demanded an urgent meeting with the president of the Slovakian Deaflympics committee, Jaromir Ruda, to discuss all critical issues.
More details of the cancellation are expected to be released once the board concludes its meeting with Ruda.
Canada was set to field a team of 38 athletes, including 23 in hockey, 10 in curling, three snowboarding competitors, and two alpine skiers.
