Vancouver’s Jeff Grinta — best known for the 2007 documentary “Burnt Chocolate Water,” which played at Portland’s Hollywood Theatre and the Eugene International Film Festival — recently wrapped up work on his latest documentary.
The hour-long “On the Spectrum: Coping with Asperger's & Autism” explores the two disorders and spotlights stories of how adults are successfully living with them.
The topic hits close to home for Grinta. The 45-year-old filmmaker wanted to find out more about autism when he thought a close relative was suffering from it.
Throughout his research, Grinta met several adults living full lives with autism, including a counselor and a musician.
He hopes the film reaches parents whose children have been recently diagnosed.
“If your kid has Asperger's syndrome or autism, it’s not the end of the world. There’s still hope,” he said.
