JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. -- Jackson County deputies are investigating the murder of a wheelchair bound woman. According to Coroner Vicky Broudus, 46-year-old Vicki Slater was found dead Thursday in her home on Shingle Mill Landing Road.
Broudus has concluded that Slater was stabbed in the back of the neck by a sharp object. Police say there were no signs of forced entry, but according to neighbors, the woman never locked her doors.
Deputies are interviewing several people in their search for possible suspects.
"We don't know, at this point, motive or anything. It's in the very early stages and hopefully we will have some answers by the end of today," Sheriff Mike Byrd said.
Deputies believe the murder occurred the morning of March 12, but they didn't receive a call until later that afternoon.
