The family of a double amputee who died in a Winnipeg hospital waiting room in 2008 after waiting there for almost a day and a half for medical attention is suing the regional health system for $1.6 million.
The statement of claim, filed Sept. 15 by Esther Grant Joyce on behalf of Brian Sinclair's estate, is against the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, WRHA vice-president Brock Wright, the government of Manitoba and 13 individuals. It also lists two other unnamed defendants.
A family spokesperson was unavailable.
Sinclair, an aboriginal man who used a wheelchair, was found dead on Sept. 21, 2008, after he waited 34 hours in the Health Sciences Centre emergency room without being treated for a bladder infection, a condition that required a simple catheter change and antibiotics.
