The owner of a pub in Alicante who was denounced for refusing entry to a group of 13 Down Syndrome people who wanted to have a drink on a Saturday night, has accepted a year’s ban from the profession.
Given the bar owners agreement, the minimum punishment according to the Penal Code was granted; it could have been as long as four years.
The owner of the ‘Basic’ pub had earlier told the judge that on November 6 2010 he would not have asked the group to leave, a version at odds with the two monitors with the Down Syndrome group, but he later contacted the prosecutor and accepted the year ban.
The ban is the shortest possible under the Penal Code.
