A West Australian study into dyslexia shows many cases are going undiagnosed until sufferers reach adulthood.
Adults with the learning disability who participated in the project were questioned about their experiences.
Most said they had negative experiences at school and work that related to their literacy.
Murdoch University Researcher, Kathleen Tanner says four of the participants had no idea they had dyslexia until they were adults.
"There was a lack of understanding throughout their lives and at all points within their lives even to the point where at least four of the participants had no understanding of dyslexia as a disability till they were diagnosed as adults," she said.
