Art Slam 2009 calls for entries

The Art Slam 2009 Slide Exhibition of Art by Artists with Disabilities is calling for entries.

The exhibition, presented by The Arts and Disability Network and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, will be in the Koret Auditorium, de Young Museum, Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Access Advisors Open House and Disability Arts Festival.

Art Slam 2009 is the third presentation and will include one work per participating artist and a brief artist's statement. The Art Slam will be screened in the afternoon of March 28 following a reception for the artists, and on March 27 there will be a preview screening. Art Slam 2009 will be available on the Web sites of the de Young Museum and the National Arts and Disabilities Center .

The Arts and Disability Network was formed by the California Arts Council, VSA arts of California , and the National Arts and Disability Center at UCLA, to create opportunities for artists with disabilities to network, gain knowledge, and advocate for artists with disabilities to forge their own artistic contributions and identities. The Access Advisors, a support group of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco , produce the Open House to highlight the Museums accessibility everyday.

With no entry fee, Art Slam 2009 is open to all artists with disabilities. Each artist submits one work and it will be accepted if it is among the first 280 received. Media: 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional visual art.

Send entries electronically to tbrown@famsf.org or surface mail to Tish Brown, de Young Museum, 50 Tea Garden Drive , San Francisco , CA 94118 . Acceptable formats: electronic file (size 4 x 6, resolution 300 DPI, and send as a JPG) , CD-Rom, or DVD. Entry must include the name of the artist, year created, medium, dimensions, and an artist's statement of up to 45 words.

All entries must be received by Friday, January 30, 2009, but if entries exceed 280, the cut off date will be earlier. By February 13, 2009, Art Slam will inform each artist if the artwork will be included in Art Slam.
