Vietnam celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities with turnout of 2,000

From VietNamNet:

A meeting and exchange programme to celebrate the International Day of Disabled Persons was held in Hanoi on Nov. 30 by the National Coordinating Committee on Disability of Vietnam and the Hanoi Disabled Persons’ Association.

About 2,000 disabled people and more than 20 units of the disabled showcased at the event their products and services. The International Day of Disabled Persons (December 3) this year has the theme of “Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Dignity and justice for all of us.”

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) Dam Huu Dac said Vietnam signed to accede to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Oct. 2007. The MOLISA and relevant ministries are jointly drafting a law on the disabled to submit to the National Assembly next year, he added.

On this occasion, the organising board presented 31 sets of computers to the disabled under a charity programme to give 10,000 computers to disabled persons jointly held by the MOLISA and the Information Technology Application Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

A website on jobs for persons with disabilities was officially launched during the event. The website http://www.brec.nhanai.vn/ aims to help the disabled seek jobs and provide domestic and foreign employers with direct access to labourers with disabilities.
