Vietnam hosts Judo tournament for blind competitors

From VietNamNet Bridge:

The HCM City Judo Tournament for the Blind was held on April 9, at the Phu Tho Sports House, attracting over 50 artists from five teams, in six weight categories.

The team of the HCM City Association of Blind People came in first. The team of District 3 ranked second and the Judo teams of District 12 and Tan Phu District came third.

Practicing Judo has become a movement in HCM City and the southern province of Dong Nai, starting from a Judo class for blind people held by Bung Sang organisation in 2005.

The Secretary General of the Sports Association for the Blind, Ly Dai Nghia, said: “After the success of Vietnamese blind judo artists at the two recent Southeast Asian Games for the disabled (Para Games), especially since artist Trieu Thi Nhoi was selected for the Paralympics Beijing 2008, more disadvantaged people practice judo.”

The event was a chance for coaches of the national team to seek talented judo artists to prepare for the 5th Para Games 2009 and Paralympics 2010.
