TRENTON, N.J. - Disabled New Jerseyans are planning to protest Gov. Jon S. Corzine's proposed budget outside the Statehouse May 14.
The budget calls for cutting $125,000 from five of the state's 12 Centers for Independent Living.
State Centers for Independent Living chairman Scott Elliott says the cuts are "devastating." Elliot says the state and federally funded centers already have tight budgets.
The centers help the physically and mentally handicapped with job training, housing and learning mass transit routes.
Corzine has proposed cutting the budget of nearly every state agency for the fiscal year starting July 1.
