Avid Twitter user Marlee Matlin competes for Shorty Award

The Shorty Awards are unique awards for the Twitter community, by the Twitter community. Online voting is public and democratic, culminating in an awards ceremony that recognizes the winners in 27 official categories as well as those in crowd-sourced ones.

What's your best tweet?
Was I ever a fan of Family Guy and what did I think when they made fun of me? I wasn't sure they did. I can't read cartoon characters' lips..

What are six things you could never do without?
My husband, my four kids (that's five) and family. Did I just cheat there?

How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
I use it to promote my favorite charities (Red Cross, Food banks, AIDS awareness) and info about lack of closed captioning!

What's your favorite Twitter app?
I haven't figured out how to use them yet. Give me time!

Twitter!!

What was the funniest trend you've seen?
#IfSantawasblack

What feature should Twitter add?
Twitter news. A home page where the world's happenings are condensed into 140 characters.

Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
My friend Jennifer Beals. But she really has so much going on in her life - she doesn't have time!

What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
CAPTION ACTION. LOVE. NOISE. HELP.

Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Anderson Cooper. I think he is insightful and charming.

Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
Yes. I don't like to follower haters or people who make assumptions about what I think or feel without asking me directly

Why should we vote for you?
Because silence is the last thing the world will ever hear from me and I need help to MAKE NOISE/CHANGE THE WORLD for GOOD

What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
I was proud to help Ashton Kutcher with the End Hunger campaign by submitting a video in sign that he posted

How do you make your tweets unique?
I try to make them as current as I can. Provocative too, a bit racy and ALWAYS mindful of what my followers want to hear!

What inspires you to tweet?
The ability to change the world for good things just by tapping out 140 characters and hitting "return"

Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Yes. Once I live Tweeted during Dancing with the Stars. Some of my followers HATED that. Too many Tweets!

140 characters of advice for a new user?
Make noise, make it happen often and soon you can change the world for GOOD

How long can you go without a tweet?
I've gone a week. Sometimes a gal just needs a break from the keyboard and focus on mountains, trees and family

Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
@aplusk aka Ashton Kutcher. He is a GAME CHANGER. So admire him and Demi

Why'd you start tweeting?
Because in Twitter there were no barriers. You don't have to know how to sign to understand what I'm saying here on Twitter

Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
It has given me more insight in all the wonderful people who support important causes that I support.

What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Spread how this huge community of people can come together and help those less fortunate than ourselves.

How will the world change in 2010?
Not sure HOW but I know that my followers will be part of it. WE are all eager for change, making the world equal for ALL

What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Typos. I make lots of them, Then I post and then realize "Oops!" and have to take back my Tweets!

What will the world be like 10 years from now?
Hopefully we'll be able to harness the technology like this wonderful stuff with Twitter to make the world EQUAL for all
