Mississippi caregiver pleads guilty for abusing woman with Down syndrome

From The Associated Press:

LAUREL, Miss. — A Laurel caregiver has pleaded guilty to abusing a vulnerable adult in her care.

The attorney general's office says 54-year-old Linda House was given a suspended six-month sentence. She will not serve jail time unless she violates her probation. She was placed on one year supervised probation.

She was also ordered to complete a court-approved anger management program and pay a fine.

Prosecutors say House, who worked at Alexander Milne Home for Women in Laurel, poured cold water on a resident with Down syndrome after becoming frustrated when the woman wouldn't stand while she tried to shower her. House then left the woman unattended on the bathroom floor.
