California mother charged with starving son with CP to death

From KTLA-TV in California:

VICTORVILLE, Calif. -- A Victorville mother is under arrest, accused of starving her five year old son to death. The boy suffered from cerebral palsy.

Rosaondra Clay was arrested on May 12 for the murder of 5-year-old Kevin Baldwin.

Investigators say the case began when they were called to a home in the 15800 block of Green Hill Drive in Victorville on July 3, 2008. Deputies were dispatched to the home on a medical aid call for a report of a 5 year old boy who was not breathing.

They found Baldwin unresponsive inside the home. The Fire Department also responded and began treating the victim. Baldwin was transported to the Victor Valley Hospital, where he died a short time later.

An investigation determined that the child died of severe malnutrition due to neglect. Rosondra Clay was the boy's primary caregiver.

"In Kevin's condition, he required feeding," Cindy Beavers, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.

"Someone had to feed him slowly in order for him to swallow the food. So there was a lot of patience required and his mother was his primary caregiver."

After reviewing the case, the District Attorney's Office filed charges against the victim's mother, Rosondra Clay, for murder.

Clay is currently being held at Victor Valley Jail on $1,000,000.00 bail.
