Wheelchair user in Ohio hit by car and left in street

From WKRC-TV in Cincinnati:

A driver hits a woman in a wheelchair and takes off leaving her lying, helplessly in the middle of the road. Shawna Noble was hit on High Street near Second Street in Hamilton. She prayed no other cars would slam into her - as she waited for someone to help her.

Local 12's Larry Davis talked to Noble about the terrifying moments after she was hit.

If you're familiar with downtown Hamilton---you know High Street traffic can be unbearable. If you're crossing the street, you sometimes take your life into your own hands and if you're in a wheelchair--crossing in a crosswalk can be a dangerous journey.

For the past 19 years- Shawna Noble has been confined to a wheelchair. A car crash leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. On Monday--she had another brush with death. A pickup truck hit her while she was in the crosswalk - the driver took off. The impact spun her around and the wheelchair tipped over on Shawna's left side. "I was laying there on the ground with no way to get up. That person didn't know if I was dead, didn't know if I needed help getting up, they just left the scene."

Shawna found herself staring down oncoming traffic. She feared she would be hit again. Witnesses came to Shawna's aid.

While her motorized wheelchair was damaged, Shawna suffered only an abrasion to her shoulder.

Shawna Noble works for Butler County and is the latest county worker to be hit in traffic in recent years. On Thursday, county workers received tips about crosswalk safety. "I don't take it for granted cars are going to stop and so I'm very fearful now when I cross the road and I check and I recheck and I check again to make sure I'm safe."

Shawna does believe the driver knows she was struck, since her wheelchair was spun around and knocked over. There is a surveillance camera on top of this building---police are going to take a look at that to see if there is video of the hit and run in hopes of tracking down that driver.

The pickup truck is teal green - with an egg-shell colored camper top. It has dual rear wheels. Witnesses did not get a make, model or license plate number.
