The biggest international sports or cultural event in the North-Coast’s history, the 2010 UCI Para-cycling World Championships of Baie-Comeau will be presented from August 19th to August 22nd in the city’s streets.
Athletes from 30 to 40 countries will take part in these Para-cycling Road World Championships. More than 500 athletes, team members and journalists from the five continents are expected in Baie-Comeau for this prestigious international event.
The 2010 UCI Para-cycling World Championships of Baie-Comeau will be broadcasted all around the Canada, but also in the world by means of television and Internet, thus ensuring an exceptional visibility to the event and to the region in the majority of the countries taking part in the Championships. Many foreign journalists will also come to Baie-Comeau for a week to cover this international event.
Athletes and visitors will also be able to discover the touristic attractions of the region, or take part in sea excursions to discover our wonderful landscapes. After all, Baie-Comeau is situated in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. During a week, Baie-Comeau and the Manicouagan will live on the rhythm of the world, in a big festive event that will combine sports and culture. An important cultural program is indeed planned as part of the Championships.
The 2010 UCI Para-cycling World Championships have been given obtained from from the UCI (International Cycling Union) by Paramanic International, a Non-profit Organization that aims at bringing international sports or cultural events in the North-Coast of Quebec. Founded in August 2009, Paramanic is really proud of obtaining the 2010 UCI Para-cycling World Championships that will be presented in the city of Baie-Comeau. This organization also aims at other projects for the coming years.

A former print journalist, she is a member of the Advisory Board for the National Center on Disability and Journalism (https://ncdj.org/). Haller is Professor Emerita in the Department of Mass Communication at Towson University in Maryland, USA. Haller is co-editor of the 2020 "Routledge Companion to Disability and Media" (with Gerard Goggin of University of Sydney & Katie Ellis of Curtin University, Australia). She is author of "Representing Disability in an Ableist World: Essays on Mass Media" (Advocado Press, 2010) and the author/editor of Byline of Hope: Collected Newspaper and Magazine Writing of Helen Keller (Advocado Press, 2015). She has been researching disability representation in mass media for 30+ years. She is adjunct faculty in the Disability Studies programs at the City University of New York (CUNY) and the University of Texas-Arlington.
