Florida boy who has his own anti-bullying campaign to be featured on "Tourette's Uncovered" on Discovery Health Channel Sept. 13

From My Fox-TV in Tampa Bay, Fla:

LAKELAND, Fla. - A 10-year-old in Lakeland is preparing for his moment in the national spotlight.

He is one of just a handful of others living with Tourette's syndrome who were chosen to appear in a television special airing coast-to-coast Monday night.

On Sunday, as Jaylen Arnold celebrated his tenth birthday, he was all smiles.

It's hard to believe the things his mother hears from strangers.

"People say, out lout where we can hear them, 'Oh, what's wrong with that child? He has a demon in him,'" Jaylen's mom, Robin Arnold, said.

But there is no demon.

"He suffers from Tourette's syndrome and Asperger's syndrome and severe OCD, but he's not actually a sufferer," explained Arnold. "It's a blessing."

This week, Jaylen will share that smile of his nationwide. He's one of three children featured in "Tourette's Uncovered," a documentary premiering on the Discovery Health Channel.

"It just tells how Tourette's Syndrome is affecting their life or helping their life," explained Jaylen.

The Discovery Channel discovered Jaylen through his website, Jaylen's Challenge . On his page, he and his mom share an anti-bullying message.

It became quite popular after they posted a video that has a very specific message.

"What I want other people to know and all the other things ... is to not bully," said Jaylen.

He learned about bullying firsthand when other children made fun of his condition.

"I videoed him progressively getting worse from his condition as a result of the bullying," Arnold said. "At the time I was trying to advocate for health for my child."

Now, Jaylen speaks for himself by distributing posters to schools and sharing books that promote his anti-bullying message.

His mother hopes her son's television appearance will send a message to those strangers who mistake her child's twitches and ticks for public misbehavior.

"When I walk into a grocery store I want people to look at my child [and say] 'Wow, that little boy has Tourette's syndrome," she said.

"Tourette's Uncovered" premieres Monday 9 p.m. on the Discovery Health Channel.
