O'Jays singer reveals his 30-year battle with MS

Walter Williams (far right in picture), singer for the legendary R&B group the O'Jays, has revealed that he has been secretly battling multiple sclerosis for over 30 years.

Williams, who was diagnosed in 1983, decided to disclose his illness to raise awareness of the disease on World MS Day on May 26.

"I have done well with MS and I want other sufferers to know that they too can lead a normal life. Why now? Well, it's a good time to come out and let people know there is medication for this now that helps a great deal. When I was diagnosed they told me I had 20 years to live and there was no cure but it has all changed," Williams told interviewers at an MS Day event.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer founded the O'Jays in the late 1950s with friend Eddie Levert. Over the course of their career the group has scored several Top 10 singles including "Back Stabbers," "Love Train," and "For the Love of Money."
