NY organization buys Pennsylvania home for disabled girls

A New York-based organization has taken over the St. Michael's School in Pine Grove but plans to keep it open and continue providing the same services.

Eihab Human Services, based in Springfield, N.Y., recently bought St. Michael's, 25 Oak Grove Road, Pine Grove, for $197,000, according to the Schuylkill County Recorder of Deeds Office.

St. Michael's was sponsored by the Diocese of Scranton and provided a home for 10 girls, according to its website.

It also operates a home for boys in Tunkhannock.

Eihab is a multicultural, non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and adults with developmental disabilities, mental retardation and behavioral health challenges, according to its website.

It employs teachers, doctors, therapists and others.

According to the company, a press conference is scheduled in the coming weeks at the St. Michael's site in Pine Grove and more details will be offered then.
