Dyslexia sends artist on path to sculpture, art

Tehama Today in N. California profiles ceramic artist and sculptor, Jay Murphy, who says an undiagnosed learning disability led him toward art: "'They didn't have a name for it (dyslexia) when I was in school,' he said. 'It was intensely humiliating as a child.' Because of the learning disability, he ended up in wood shop and art classes that allowed him to work with his hands rather than in academics — and it quickly became obvious that he was skilled not only at carpentry, but also in art."
