Australian group urges more accessible transportation in New South Wales

The New South Wales Opposition says the State Government needs to act immediately to make the transport system more equitable for disabled commuters.

Figures from the Ministry of Transport show only a third of CityRail stations have wheelchair access.

The Opposition says the subsidy scheme for disabled taxi services has also not increased since 1999.

The Opposition's Disability Services spokesman, Andrew Constance, says that is despite fares increasing substantially over the same period.

"It's just not good enough that there has been recommendations made by the Legislative Council only to be ignored by the State Government," he said.

"This is discriminatory situation for people with a disability who are dependent on the state's transport system."
