Connecticut Mayor says dyslexia caused corruption

From The AP:

HARTFORD, Conn. — Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez's chief of staff says dyslexia may have kept the mayor from seeing a developer's e-mail that discussed a payoff demand by a North End politician.

Susan McMullen testified June 10 in Perez's corruption trial. He's is charged with accepting home improvements as a bribe from a contractor and trying to extort $250,000 from that developer.

McMullen says Perez may not have seen the e-mail that indicated North End politician Abraham Giles wanted $100,000 to vacate a parking lot that the developer wanted to buy.

She said the staff tries to keep the mayor's reading to a minimum because of his previously undisclosed dyslexia.

Judge Julia Dewey was expected to rule Friday on a defense motion to split the case into two seperate trials.
