Multiple-disability indie band starts international tour, invited to play at UN

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. (ABC) reports August 8 that the indie rock band, Rudely Interrupted, from Melbourne is leaving its pub gigs behind for an international tour of the USA and Britain, and the band has been invited to play at the United Nations in December.

ABC reports that "five of the six musicians in the band have a range of intellectual and physical disabilities, including blindness, deafness, Asperger's, autism and Down syndrome. They write their own music and say they use their weaknesses as their strengths."

ABC interviews band frontman, Rory Burnside, who was born with no eyes and has Asperger's Syndrome. He says the tour "allows us to show off to, well basically the whole world, what we are capable of."

Visit the band's MySpace page, where you can listen to their music, which I personally found to be really excellent.
