Esther Vergeer named Dutch disabled sportsperson of the year

Dutch News Dec. 17 says that "tennis player Esther Vergeer, who plays in a wheelchair, was voted disabled sportsperson of the year. In Beijing, she won the Paralympics tennis title for the third time in a row."

The AP reported during the Paralympics about the picture: "Number one ranked wheelchair tennis player in the world Esther Vergeer celebrates her win during a wheelchair tennis match against former top seed and the last person to beat her, Australia's Daniela di Toro at the Paralympic games in Beijing , China, Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. Esther Vergeer knows more about dominating tennis streaks than Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer or the Williams sisters, combined. Vergeer hasn't lost in 345 matches of wheelchair tennis, a string that dates back 5 1/2 years."
