California camp adapts outdoor activities for people with disabilities

From CBS News:

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Wheelchair bound and disabled outdoor enthusiasts are rock climbing, participating in agility tests, jet skiing and water skiing throughout this week at Marine Stadium in Long Beach as part of a week-long disability camp.

The Land Meets Sea Sports Camp is sponsored by Casa Colina and the Long Beach Sea Festival, and is now in its sixteenth year.

Tommy Hollenstein said he was a surfer before his injury, then began water skiing one year after he was injured. He wanted everyone else to enjoy water sports as well, without a wheel chair impeding the process so he helped to start the Land Meets Sea Sports Camp.

The sports camp includes activities such as water skiing, sailing, personal watercraft operation, offshore sport fishing, outrigger canoeing, harbor cruises and more. On land, sports include rock climbing, hockey, quad rugby, basketball, hand cycling, martial arts and softball.
