LOS ANGELES —- Federal employment regulators have filed a lawsuit against American Apparel, accusing the Los Angeles clothing manufacturer of firing an employee after he returned from medical leave after cancer treatment.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Oct. 5 that it filed the case in federal court.
The EEOC says the company didn't accommodate the worker's needs and fired him because of his disability in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
The lawsuit seeks back pay, compensatory and punitive damages and injunctive relief to prevent future disability discrimination.
American Apparel attorney Peter Schey says the company is reviewing the complaint and would try to resolve the matter.
