"Days of Our Lives" head writer talks about autism storyline
Beginning on June 24, NBC's daytime drama “Days of our Lives” will begin a storyline in which two main characters learn their son has autism.
The storyline is being crafted by "Days" head writer Dena Higley, who has a son with autism. She says: "The master goal (of the storyline) is to just get it out there, that there is this whole population that exists that lives with us. And I would love to raise up a generation of people who embraced the (differentness) of these kids."
Monsters and Critics published a long Q&A with her and the show's actors about the autism episodes.
