Creature Discomforts campaign aims to change attitudes toward disability in Britain

On July 3, Leonard Cheshire Disability campaigns in the UK launched its second series of TV ads in a campaign "to change the way people think about, and respond to, disability." Called Creature Discomforts, the second series focuses on love and sex and features Millie the Mouse and Roxy the Rabbit. All the ads can be viewed on the Creature Discomforts Web site.

Roxy the Rabbit, pictured above, is voiced by Isobel (Issy) Bulmer, 22, who is a wheelchair user. She lives at Leonard Cheshire Disability's Lavender Fields transition service and works as a volunteer at a Cancer Research charity shop and the Garden House Hospice Shop. She is currently looking for a job in retail.

Bryan Dutton, director general at Leonard Cheshire Disability, said in a Business Zone article: "Disabled people experience unnecessary barriers which are created largely through ignorance. The public's low expectations, especially of their ability to pursue education or a career, play a big part in this. We want people to change the way they see disability, to think and act differently and to engage with disabled people in all aspects of life."
