The Chambersburg, Penn., Public Opinion reports that Jimmy Brookens, 45, is one of the best micro sprint car drivers in middle Pennsylvania. in 2007, he won 11 races and finished second in the 600 sprints point standings at Path Valley Speedway. This year , he is only 19 points behind the leader.

Brookens became paralyzed in a motorcycle race. When he decided to race sprint cars, his brother Randy customized his No. 11 car with a hand-controlled system to replace the standard accelerator and brake. The car also has an automatic starter button and a gear shift on the left side.

"Once I'm in the car and out on the track, I'm just another guy," he said. "I get around the pits a little different than the next guy, but once we're on the track, I'm no different than anyone else."
