Web site goes after fraudulent use of disability parking placards

KABC-TV in Los Angeles has a story about the Web site, HandicappedFraud.org, which allows for "community-based reporting of handicapped placard abuse and fraud. Unfortunately, there is wide spread abuse of the blue placards issued to the handicapped, and there simply aren't enough police officers to issue the tickets," the Web site says.

KABC-TV reports that "UCLA's parking enforcement unit confiscates about three fraudulently used placards every week." And that's just one location in the second largest city in the USA!

Maureen Birdsall, the woman who started HandicappedFraud.org, says she did so because she saw the abuse when driving her disabled grandfather to appointments and not being able to find the parking spot he needed.

The KABC story follows a story from Oct. 5 that reported on the rising number of disability parking placards issued in California.

You can watch the KABC-TV report (and hear some of the bogus excuses people use for why they are illegally using a disability parking placard) on its Web site.
