DONCASTER, UK -- Doncaster residents with learning disabilities are set to get their first dedicated nightclub event.
Called Under the Stars, the club will be the first of its kind in the borough when it launches at Westways nightclub on Wood Street next month.
Led by Doncaster resident Afson Viez Afarani, the event aims to create an atmosphere where he and other people with learning disabilities can go to have a good time and feel safe.
Under the Stars has been running for some time already in Sheffield and is run by a registered charity.
Afson said: "I'm 24, always loved music and have really enjoyed going to Under the Stars in Sheffield.
"It was my idea to set up a nightclub for people with learning disabilities and their friends here in Doncaster and so I asked if Under the Stars could come and help me set up a night."
He said: "I wanted somewhere in Doncaster where you can feel safe to go and meet people, have a drink, have a dance and have a fun time.
"We've already been giving presentations and training people to be DJs on the night.
"We really want this event to be a success and hope as many people as possible will come along and support it."
The first night will be on Thursday September 2 from 7.30pm until 11pm.
Doncaster Council, together with members of the Learning Disability Partnership Board, is supporting the plan.
