Designing for disabilities

Forbes magazine recently featured a number of new products being designed for people with disabilities and others with mobility impairments. Many take into account universal design principles.

Forbes Web site has a photo slideshow of many of the new products.

The article focuses on the new design line from Michael Graves, 73, a well-known architect and designer who became paralyzed in 2003. The first group of products in the Michael Graves Active Living Collection will arrive in July.

Using his new experiences with disability, Graves designed the line "to help seniors--and others with physical limitations--cope at home and in the community."

Caring.com also had a Q&A with Michael Graves.
