Blind soldier continues to serve in Special Forces

Capt. Ivan Castro is an executive officer of the 7th Special Forces Group headquarters in the U.S. Army.

The Associated Press profiled him on June 30. After recovering from the loss of his sight in Iraq in 2006, Castro asked for a permanent assignment in the Army's Special Operations Command. He does managerial tasks and trains the group in Spanish because it deploys regularly to train South American troops.

"I want to support the guys and make sure life is easier for those guys so that they can accomplish the mission," Castro says.
